Art gallery associate Megan Fizell writes Feasting On Art, in which her recipes resemble the art she curates. Although some matches are more obvious than others, many of her posts pay thoughtful homage to a painting and the story behind its creation or its creator. This post,Hirst’s Cincole Cupcakes, is a more obvious imitation, whileTiffany’s Pumpkin Chipotle Tartelette with Beetroot Jam Chevreis a subtler representation. She also dedicated anentire recipe seriesto Frida Kahlo’s paintings.
I think that often, cooking, even in its simplest forms, is a part of life that most explicitly imitates art. Whether it’s a painting, a kind of music playing in your kitchen, the weather or a piece of food writing, I believe there’s always something creative and subliminal that accompanies the biological in our desire to eat.
What are your sources of creativity in the kitchen? How do you claim authorship of your plate?
